Locksmith in Brampton, OntarioA locksmithwho explains things.

Nobody should have to nod along while a stranger works on their front door. We show you the worn pins, the misaligned strike or the failed spring, describe the choices in ordinary words, and let you decide what happens next.

From the shop

Locks, keys and doors, done properly.

Our habit is to explain as we go. You will hear why the strike is being moved, what the new pins do, and which of the three keys on the counter is the one that now opens everything. It slows the job by a few minutes and it means you leave the visit understanding your own door, which we think is part of the service.

Change or rekey

Change or Rekey Locks

Home locksmithing is built around three questions: does the lock work smoothly, does it actually hold the door, and who has keys? A visit answers all three and usually leads to a short list of changes rather than a long one.

  1. A silver-colored deadbolt set in clear packaging with two keys resting on the countertop in front. — Lock Rekeying, Brampton
Lock RekeyingThe whole key ring went missing somewhere between the grocery store and the bus. You got back in with the spare, but a set of keys is out there, and you would sleep better knowing they open nothing.
  2. Person holding a silver-colored lock beside an open wooden door with exposed circular holes and a latch at its edge. — Deadbolt Installation, Brampton
Deadbolt InstallationYou bought a keypad deadbolt online and pulled the old one off, only to find the hole in the door is a different size and the bolt latch sits at a backset the new kit does not list. The door is now open and the box is…
  3. Detached satin-nickel lever hardware, tubular latch and strike plate on a wooden workbench. — Lock Replacement & Upgrade, Brampton
Lock Replacement & UpgradeThree teenagers, a dog walker, a cleaner and one house key that keeps going missing. You are tired of cutting copies and would rather give each person a code you can switch off, with a proper deadbolt behind it.
  4. Person holding a long door handle and rectangular lock case beside an open wooden door with exposed hardware recesses. — Vintage Mortise Lock Service, Brampton
Vintage Mortise Lock ServiceThe old skeleton key still fits the keyhole, but it now needs a jiggle, a lean on the door and a little luck before the bolt moves. Last week it took three tries.
  5. Person holding a black door-handle assembly and a latch beside a glazed door with exposed lock openings. — Smart Lock Installation, Brampton
Smart Lock InstallationThere are four copies of the front-door key floating around: one with the cleaner, one with a neighbour, one on a hook at your parents' place, and one you honestly cannot account for. You would rather hand out codes you…
  6. Pale blue garden gate with a black lever latch between light stone pillars. — Gate & Building Entry Locks, Brampton
Gate & Building Entry LocksA visitor buzzes from the panel downstairs, someone presses the button by the door, and nothing happens. The electric strike on the lobby door used to click open on cue; now it stays silent, and residents are propping…
  7. Detached threaded cam lock and mounting washer on a workbench in front of closed mail compartments. — Mailbox Lock Replacement, Brampton
Mailbox Lock ReplacementAfter a winter of road spray and salt, the little lock on the mailbox door has gone stiff, then gritty, then almost immovable. Rust has crept in around the keyway, and the key barely turns anymore no matter how it is…

Commercial

Commercial Locks

Commercial rekeying is planned around your trading hours and your staff list. We come with the cylinders and the pins, change every lock that matters in one visit, and hand over a numbered set of keys with a note of who received each.

High Security Locks

You have lost count of how many people have had a key to your house over the years: cleaners, a contractor, a former partner, the previous owner's family. The lock still works, but you no longer know who else it works for.

Which fix fits?

Your deadbolt only locks if you lift the door. The usual fix

UsuallyRealign the strike and renew the hinge screws.

WhyA dropped door binds the bolt; setting the hinges and the strike returns the smooth throw.

The patio slider has only the factory latch. The usual fix

UsuallyA keyed auxiliary lock or a bolt into the track.

WhySliders lift out or pop their latch; a second lock fixed to the frame changes that.

The door from the garage into the house has a knob lock and nothing else. The usual fix

UsuallyAdd a graded deadbolt with a reinforced strike.

WhyThat door is often the weakest on the house and the one nobody watches from the street.

After a week of humid weather the back door has swollen in its frame. The usual fix

UsuallyHome Lockout Service

WhyMost lockouts end with the original lock still on the door and still working.

You signed the lease on the unit last week and the landlord handed over possession, but the previous tenant's locks are still on both doors and no keys came…The usual fix

WhyOn a commercial door the lock is rarely alone.

How a visit goes

Commercial doors carry hardware that most homes never see, and reading it correctly is the first skill of a business lockout. An aluminium storefront door usually has a narrow mortise cylinder driving a hookbolt deadlock or a paddle-operated deadlatch.

Drawing: a house seen from the street. The van pulls up, the garage door is opened for the work, then it closes level and the porch light comes on.
  1. 1 of 3

    Confirming it is your door

Before touching the lock we ask for identification or another way to show you live or work there. It protects you as much as anyone.

  2. 2 of 3

    The gentlest opening that works

Most doors can be picked or bypassed with no damage. We start there and only move to a firmer method if the lock leaves no other choice, explaining as we go.

  3. 3 of 3

A working lock before we go

Once you are inside we check the lock still turns properly and that you have a key that works. If the lock was the reason you were stuck, we say so.

2021 census · what it means at the door

  • 23%Newer homes

About 23% of homes in Brampton were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.

In newer developments the hardware is often the same finish and style from house to house. A locksmith can offer upgrades that match what is already there, so a stronger cylinder or a new lever set fits in without looking like an afterthought.

  • 53%

Single-detached houses make up about 53% of homes in Brampton (2021 Census).

A mix of detached and attached housing means a mix of key habits: spare keys under pots at houses, fob-and-key combinations in buildings. A locksmith can improve both, with a proper key safe or keypad here and a tidy suite cylinder there.

Curious about the process?

(289) 901-5130

My key turns all the way but the door stays locked. What has failed?

Usually the link between the cylinder and the bolt. On a storefront lock the cam behind the mortise cylinder can wear or slip out of position; on a lever or mortise lockset the tailpiece or a spring in the deadlatch gives up. Your key is fine and so are the pins, so once the door is opened the fix is a new cam, tailpiece or latch, and your existing keys carry on working.

How long does a business lockout take?

It depends on the hardware and what else is wired to it. A standard storefront cylinder or office lever on a well-hung door is often a short job once authority is confirmed. A high-security cylinder, a frozen lock, a dropped door or a dead access controller adds time, and so does rekeying several doors afterwards. The locksmith gives you a realistic idea on the phone once you describe the door and the situation.

An employee left and never returned their keys. Should we rekey?

It is the sensible step, and a lockout visit is a convenient moment for it. Rekeying keeps your existing cylinders and changes the pins so a new key operates them and the unreturned one does nothing. If your doors use interchangeable cores, swapping the core takes minutes. Bring every door that shared the old key onto the new one, count the fresh keys into named hands and start a register so the next departure is a line in a book rather than a call.

How long does the installation take?

A cylinder swap with new keys on one door is a short visit. A new deadbolt, reinforced strike and frame repair takes longer, and several doors keyed to a plan take longer again, mostly in bench time pinning cylinders. The locksmith gives you a realistic estimate once the doors have been looked at, because the frame condition and the door preparation matter more than the count of locks alone.
